International School Utrecht

International School Utrecht (ISU) is a warm and welcoming learning community brought together by a single purpose: to inspire our students with a passion for lifelong learning and to equip them with the tools to achieve excellence for themselves and the global community they will live in.

We are an International Baccalaureate World School and part of SPO Utrecht (primary) and Nuovo Scholen (secondary), offering the IB continuum of education to over 1000 students and 160 staff from all over the world. We are a close knit, inclusive community of life-long learners, and a member of the Dutch International Schools (DIS).

In 2027, we are moving to our permanent campus at Utrecht Science Park (USP) which is a major milestone for our school community and an exciting moment to welcome families, students, and visitors into a brand-new home.

Our core Values

Curiosity

As an IB world continuum school, ISU offers high quality education through inquiry-based learning, inspiring student curiosity, lifelong learning, and agency.

Compassion

ISU is an inclusive school where everyone is welcome and can be who they want to be. We understand that there are multiple perspectives, and we respect each other’s differences.

Connection

Our ISU community is not defined by borders but exists in connections. To us, connection means belonging, feeling involved, and making links between learning and life.

Vacancy

We are looking to recruit a warm and professional Welcome Desk staff member for a fulltime position to be the first point of contact for our community. A job sharing arrangement could be considered where there is a suitable match. As the face of the school, you will greet and assist students, staff, parents, and visitors, and ensure that everyone who arrives at ISU feels welcomed, informed, and supported. This is a varied and visible role that sits at the heart of school life.

As 2026-2027 is a transition year ahead of our move to Utrecht Science Park, this role will flex and adapt with the needs of the school. Beyond the core welcome desk duties, outlined below, the postholder will take on further support tasks shaped around their strengths and the school's evolving priorities, playing a key part in the Support Staff team's work to build the systems and workflows of our new home the following year

Qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in a front-of-house, reception, customer service, or hospitality role
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English; Dutch is an advantage
  • Confident with everyday ICT systems and willing to learn school-specific software
  • Experience in a busy, people-facing environment

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes:

  • A warm, welcoming, and professional manner, and a genuine service-oriented attitude
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise in a busy environment
  • Well-developed communication skills for interactions with varied parties (students, staff, parents, and external visitors)
  • A positive, solution-oriented and proactive approach
  • Discretion and good judgement when handling confidential information
  • Willingness to work closely within the support staff team while also able to work independently
  • Be culturally competent with an internationally minded attitude
  • A belief in our identity as a learning community and school, and a desire to contribute to something with a genuine social value
  • Demonstrates professionalism, commitment, integrity, and perseverance

Responsibilities

  • To act as the first point of contact at the welcome desk, greeting and assisting students, staff, parents, and visitors in person, by telephone, and by email
  • To manage visitor sign-in, security, and front-of-house procedures
  • To handle incoming enquiries and direct them to the appropriate person or team
  • To support the smooth daily running of the front-of-house school environment
  • To support general student administration tasks, such as maintaining accurate records and assisting with day-to-day data entry and enquiries
  • Occasionally assist with general caretaking and facilities tasks as needed, helping ensure the building runs smoothly for our community

We offer:

  • A very welcoming staff community who get together regularly outside of school
  • An induction programme for new starters
  • Onboarding guidance
  • Professional development
  • An attractive package with benefits (with a 13th month and holiday benefits – Collective Labour Agreement for Secondary education CAO VO)
  • Salary in line with Collective Labour Agreement for Secondary education (CAO VO) – Scale 5 or 6 depending on experience.

Please apply via out website:https://www.vacancies.isutrecht.nl/

Please note that your application will only be considered if you have a permit or visa to work in the Netherlands. If you are interested in this position and meet the criteria, please provide a full CV with three references and a letter up to two pages, detailing your experience.
